Sugar Cookies

Got this recipe from Ashley Peay...a sweet girl I taught as a Beehive when Lance and I were first married and in the Broadway Ward.  She brought cookies to an activity and I loved them.  It has been the only recipe I have used for sugar cookies ever since.

Valentine Family Home Evening
Ingredients:

2/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsp milk
2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Cream shortening and sugar and vanilla together.  Add the egg; beat till light and fluffy.  Stir in milk.  Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture.  Divide dough in half, wrap and chill for one hour.  Roll out on a lightly floured surface.  Cut into shapes and place on greased cookie sheet.  Bake at 373 for 6-8 minutes.  Don't over cook, edges should not be brown.  Immediately remove from pan so they don't continue baking.  Frost
